When it comes to basic marine construction a dock is the typical starting point. Most docks are a 4-foot wide structure that extends out a short or long distance, depending on the depth and weed line of a particular water body. Docks most often end with a “terminal platform” of wider girth that allows for fishing, lounging, or even entertaining. In Florida, it is common to find a roof over a portion of the terminal platform to provide a measure of shade on hot, sunny days.
